Condemn suppression of Baloch people by
Iran |
Iran is a multination country where Baloch is one of the nations.
However, Baloch nation is suffering from national, political,
religious, cultural and economical discrimination exerted by the
Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). Baloch people is deprived of it’s
national identity, self-determination and basic human rights. The IRI
has denied Baloch people the right of being a “nation” under the
slogan of “Iran is a single Islamic nation”.
In the past 2 years the regime has further tightened its control over
all aspects of the life in the province of Balochistan and Sistan.
During the year 2006 and first quarter of 2007 nearly 600 persons have
been hanged publicly or executed in multiple prisons of the regime in
the province. Furthermore, the political leadership and security
forces of the province have publicly declared a list of 700 more
prisoners who have been sentenced to death and await hanging or
execution in Balochistan. Among these, there is a 17 year old boy
namely Saeed Kambarzahi who, last month, along with 7 other arrestees
were forced, under torture, to confess and appear on the local TV in
Zahedan, the capital of Balochistan province. Entire Balochistan and
Sistan province has been converted into a military zone by deploying
hundreds of thousands of military, paramilitary and security forces
and establishment of multiple military bases.
The regime has started to isolate the province from Baloch people
living in Balochistan provinces in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It has
started building of a wall along borders between Balochistan in Iran
and Balochistan provinces in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In some areas
they have closed border passes by spreading land mines or digging out
the land to prevent crossings by local people who have been traveling
across the borders for centuries.
The IRI suppresses any voice raised to claim a national and cultural
identity for Baloch people. In recent years several groups have
commenced activities to protest against the extensive national and
political discrimination. These groups have been active in the
framework of the present constitution. However, the IRI has never had
a good-standing record of respecting human rights nor it had respected
the individual freedoms. Few days ago a group of 6 Baloch
intellectuals led by Mr. Yaqoob Mehrnehad met with the authorities of
the province to discuss issues related to various aspects of national
discrimination and political oppression of the Baloch people. After
end of the meeting all of these individuals were kidnapped by security
forces. As today, the reasons for their detention is held secret and
their families have not been informed. This kind of action by Iran’s
security forces reminds us about death squads.
On the occasion of the visit of Irans
foreign minister to Oslo, Balochistan Peoples Party (BPP) would like
to request foreign minister Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre to:
• Ask Iran to release prisoners detained in Balochistan
• Ask Iran to stop detention, torturing and forced confessions carried
out in the province
• Condemn crimes against Baloch people committed by the Iranian regime
• Say no to more executions and public hangings in Balochistan
• Say no to building of the wall and spreading of land mines in
Balochistan
We hope that Norway as a pioneer of defending human rights will use
its voice to support the efforts of Bloch people to achieve
selfdetermination, democracy and establishing human rights in
Balochistan and Iran.
