Mr. Akbar Ganji Deserted!
By Walid Garboni
16-07-2007
Akbar Ganji became known during his hunger strike in a prison in Tehran
demanding his release. His strike was made fruitful with the help of Iranian
descendants in the west who invested time and efforts to reflect his voice.
Now that he is touring the West after his release he is campaigning for the
release of three others who are currently in Iranian regimes custody without
a charge. He has organized hunger strike camps in different western cities
one of which is London. I visited the London camp outside India House on
July 15, 2006 and found it deserted
Being a fundamentalist regime Iran always has been harsh on political
opponents and has been dealing with the criticizers brutally. We
continuously read reports of atrocities against Baloch in Sistan va
Baluchestan province, Against the Arabs in Ahwaz, against the Kurds in
Kermanshah against the Azaris in Azarba’ijan.
Some of the recorded reports of killings of Baloch by the Iranian govt. in
less than a month are shown bellow;
Friday July 14, 2006:
Radio Balochi quoted Iranian News Information that within last 48 hours 5
people (named) have been hanged publicly in Cities of Zahedan and Zabol.
Saturday July 8, 2006:
Radio Balochi quoting the govt. news website ‘Rasaalat’ that one person has
been killed in a shootout in the (Baloch) city of Iranshahr (Pahra).
However, Radio Balochi contradicting the official news and names 5 people
who were killed by the Security forces in the vicinity of Iranshahr.
Sunday July 2, 2006 :
Radio Balochi reports killing of one innocent Baloch youth by the security
forces in Iranshahr. The forces then load the body of the young Baloch on a
vehicle and displayed it around the city of Iranshahr. This incident
provoked anger in Baloch public and who demonstrated in from of the govt.
places.
Thursday June 29, 2006:
Balochistan People’s Party news site reports; two young Baloch while
returning from a wedding party were shot at by the security forces without
warning, one of whom died and other taken to hospital with server wounds.
Wednesday June 28, 2006:
Iran Press News reported the publicly hanging of two people in Zahedan. It
further added that within last two months more than one hundred people have
been hanged on false charges of terror and kidnapping.
These were examples of the confirmed reports of the atrocities against the
Baloch within a short period. There are many examples of similar crimes
being committed against the innocent Arabs, Kurds, Ahwazis.
Mr. Ganji fell short of reflecting the grievances of these people who are
important organ of Iran. Mr. Ganji did not even include in his list other
prominent political prisoners who have been in jails for many years. This
cowardly approach of Mr. Akbar Ganji caused the desertion of his hunger
strike camps in the west.
