First Edition, illustrated with seven remarkable photographic views of Balochistan and portraits of Balochi rulers. The large folding map, chromolithographed by E. Weller, London, measures 540 x 440 mm. Balochistan, a mountainous desert area, comprised a province of Pakistan, a province of Iran, and a small area of Afghanistan. The above volume gives a history of the region up to the treaty with Britain in 1876, which gave the inhabitants autonomy in exchange for British army outposts along the Afghan border and strategic roads.
